Electricity Lines Company Electra Makes New Investment
Electricity Lines Company Electra, in Kapiti Horowhenua, has purchased Sky Communications Limited, an Auckland based full service telecommunications contractor that specialises in the design, construction, commissioning and maintenance of mobile network infrastructure (cell sites). This well established private business owned by 3 partners has been operating successfully for 12 years in New Zealand as well as the Pacific Islands and Australia. The company has relationships with all the major telecommunications network operators and a current work force of 51.
Electra Chair Patricia McKelvey noted that the acquisition was part of Electra's planned investment strategy. Sky Communications would be a welcome addition to its existing group of subsidiaries, Oxford Finance Corporation power/electrical contractors Linework and Stones, DataCol NZ and its 51% owned subsidiary of Multi-Media Communications.
She said, "We have been looking for another business that would be complementary to the Electra Group and Sky Communications came to our attention as an ideal candidate.
During the process of looking at whether to buy the company we found it to be growing strongly with an excellent reputation, great people and a similar culture to our other businesses. Sky Communications also liked the look of Electra and chose us as purchaser over an Australian company.
With its financial strength Electra will be able to help the business to grow and Sky Communications will generate synergies with other members of the Group."
Sky Communications will operate as a subsidiary of meter reading and deployment company DataCol NZ alongside fibre installation and datacomms specialist MultiMedia Communications. Bruce Franks the CEO of DataCol NZ and MultiMedia Communications has considerable telecommunications experience that will be invaluable in working alongside Sky Communications General Manager Merv Taylor to ensure that the business continues to prosper and grow.
